A woman lives her routine, a small, very well organized system, a small microcosm. The arrival of newcomers disrupts that routine, she feels attacked, withdraws into herself and becomes aggressive to defend her way of life, to the point of hurting others. Eventually she drowns in her guilt.
A Carousel is a short animation film wherein 2D animation will be combined with stop motion of flat objects such as yarn, sewing thread, ...
The film reflects on polarization of people. People quickly think and feel ingroup versus outgroup. This can easily be manipulated irrationally. The dehumanizing of people is caused by a strong 'us - they' thinking. This form of dehumanization is the starting point of this short film.
After winning the VAF Wildcard for her graduation work Kastaars, Jasmine Elsen is now making this short animation film.
